NikahRegister.co.za is South Africa's centralised Muslim marriage (Nikah) registration and verification database, operated by SAMNET. It provides a secure digital record of Islamic marriages performed at Masaajid across all nine provinces, and allows authorised parties to verify marriages using a unique reference number.

No. NikahRegister.co.za is a Muslim community register for Nikah ceremonies. South African law does not automatically recognise Muslim marriages as civil marriages. This register provides an important community-level record. For full civil recognition, couples should also engage with the Department of Home Affairs.

Contact the NikahRegister team at info@nikahregister.co.za or call 084 333 3979. Registration is free for all Masaajid affiliated with a recognised Ulama body (UUCSA, MJC, Jamiatul Ulama KZN, Jamiatul Ulama SA, ICSA, or independent). Credentials are issued within 2–3 business days.

Log in to nikahregister.co.za and go to "Verify Nikah". Enter the reference number from the marriage certificate (format: NR-YYYY-PP-NNNNN, e.g. NR-2024-KZN-00142). The system confirms whether the marriage is registered. If you do not have a login, contact the NikahRegister team to request verification access.

A unique identifier assigned to each registered Nikah, in the format NR-YYYY-PP-NNNNN — where YYYY is the year, PP is the two-letter province code (e.g. KZN for KwaZulu-Natal, GP for Gauteng, WC for Western Cape), and NNNNN is the sequence number. It appears on the printed Nikah certificate.

Any registered mosque administrator or imam with a NikahRegister account can register a Nikah. The officiating Imam then signs off the record digitally to confirm it.

Recording the Mahr is optional. If recorded, it is AES-256 encrypted and visible only to authorised system administrators — it does not appear on public records, verification responses, or printed certificates.

Yes. The system supports recording a second, third, or fourth marriage. Polygynous marriages are clearly flagged in the system and can be linked to the groom's existing record.

Yes, marriages involving foreign nationals are fully supported. Passport numbers and country of origin are recorded in place of an SA ID number.

Yes. NikahRegister.co.za complies with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Data is used only for marriage registration and verification. It is not shared with third parties or used for marketing.

Terminations are recorded in the system with the reason (Talaq, Khul, Faskh, death, or annulment), date, and optional notes. The marriage record is marked as "terminated" but retained permanently as part of the community record.

Contact the NikahRegister team at info@nikahregister.co.za with the reference number and details of the error. Mosque administrators can also edit records directly through the portal.
